Melbourne, 25th April, 2025

Last day in Melbourne, one more walk this morning and just relaxed in the hotel this afternoon. Our feet needed time out. Fortunately the rain didn’t come in until about 3.00pm so we were lucky, just back in the hotel by then. We will be picking up the car by 10.am tomorrow and will be on our way on our road trip. We have been lucky with the  Melbourne weather beautiful sunny days until about a couple of hours ago. Have enjoyed our time here. Nice to have four nights instead of the one or two in previous trips. Not so much to report today but will post some photos.

Hopped on the tram this morning about 8.30am to  cross over to the other side of the city. We were off to see the Cook’s Cottage. As we walked down to Fitzroy Gardens, ( eastern side of the city, we are staying on the Western side.) we walked past the above Parliament House

Across the road was this magnificent building, Hotel Wilson

Now walking through Fitzroy Gardens.

To visit Cooks Cottage.
Originally located in Yorkshire England and built in 1755 by the parents of Captain James Cook. Cooks Cottage was brought to Melbourne by Sir Russell Grimwade in 1934. Captain James Cook never lived in the cottage. He had been away from home for nearly ten years  when his father had built it. —but the connection to the Cook family was enough to prompt Grimwade to transport the Cottage to the other side of the world. Astonishingly each brick was individually numbered, packed into barrels then shipped to Australia, along with cuttings of the original Ivy coverings.  There was a lovely little garden on the other side of the house.
Amazing what they did.

The garden out the back of the cottage.

Leaving the Cottage and walking back through Fitzroy Gardens. Back up to the CBD to try and fine some more Street Art. I loved this big old Oat Tree.

Walked under the above. Looking up through the dark coloured wood. Love the contrast colours.

Walking through the park. I think I know that guy waving to me.

Beautiful old trees. They still have their leaves even though it’s autumn. I think Melbourne is still having warm weather so will start when their temperatures start lowering. It was 27 degrees here yesterday and 25 today.

When we left the park the tail end of the Anzac parade was just finishing. There was a huge parade that started at nine in the morning. One of the main streets were closed leading the parade down to the Shrine of Remembrance.— Military Museum.

Now we are back in the central CBD. I am going to drag PT around the streets looking for more Street Art. Walking and walking, but didn’t really find any great big ones.

Woke up to fine weather after  all the rain we had yesterday. The sun was barely up and PT said let’s go and see the area while it is fine....
