Traralgon to Lake Entrance, 27th April, 2025

Didn’t get away until near nine. We don’t seem to be getting away as early as we did on the motorhome trips. It had been raining over night  and still when we left Traralgon. Just another travelling along highways day. Thirty minutes before we arrived at Lake Entrance, we turned off the highway and went down to see the Silt Jetties at  Eagle Point, Paynesville. By now at least the rain had stopped but still very overcast. We are now down near the coast at the start of these magnificent waterways which are along the coast and continuing over the broader in NSW, many kms further up the coast. They are very hard to explain but basically  along the coast the sand has built up over many thousands of years and behind them there are very large spread out lakes formed from the several rivers that flow down from the mountains. Hence the name where we are staying is called the Lakes Entrance. There is a big entrance where all the water from the rivers which form the lakes flow out to sea. Didn’t get photos today but photos tomorrow might explain it more. We are having two nights here giving us a full day tomorrow.

This is what the weather was like when we left Traralgon this morning.

. This is the Mitchell River Silt Jetty. This  Jetty has  been formed over thousands of years by sediment built up from the  Mitchell River. The long narrow banks of silt (above photo) extend more than  8kms east into Lake King. You can drive along this above road to the end to Point Dawson. Mitchell River, on the left, brings the water down from the mountains along with other rivers. Water on the right Lake King one of the many lakes that are formed behind the build up of sand along the coast.  Hence the name Lakes Entrance, letting water in from the sea  and lets water out from the rivers and lakes.

Took this photo on our way back from the drive out along the silt Jetty. This lovely home possibly a bach sits on the wider area of the start of the silt jetty and you can just see the water of Lake King on the left and the water of the Mitchell River on the right . Great little spot.

Now have arrived at the NRMA Eastern Beach Holiday Park. In Lake Entrance. This is our cabin for two nights.

These cabins are two bedrooms and two en-suite bathrooms. Great for either a family with kids or for two couples especially the way the 2nd bedroom is down a hallway on the right at the end of the hall away from the main room.
