Dorrigo, 13th May, 2025.

We didn’t start until later this morning re the weather. It was down to the deck with foggy light rain. We thought we are here to do a couple of the sights so had a coffee and got away by 10.00am. Went to Grithins Lookout which was further away from the rainforest area, where most of the bad weather floats around. The rain comes in from the ocean up through the escarpments into the Dorrigo National Park, rain forest. “We have just been told that there has been a slip and road closure further east on the Waterfall Way Highway which we are travelling on tomorrow towards the coast. The news now says one lane is open so to expect delays. The house we are in the owner told us earlier that we should take the inland route. But that would be windier and slower, narrower roads which makes it harder for driving, especially if more people are using this route. We will make a judgement in the morning. we will see what google maps says tomorrow before we leave. They are kept up to date with road closures .” Now back to our day.  We went over to Dorrigo Rainforest Centre to see if we can do the rainforest Walks. We were told that part of the usual 6.6kms loop walk has been closed. I was deciding if we should try and attempt this walk today, but that has answers my question. A small part of the walking track was still open through the rain forest to Crystal Shower falls  from the Glade Picnic Area. This walk is only 3.5kms. We went down to Glade Picnic Area to plan to do this walk. Then the rain decided to come down very heavy. Sat in the car to see if it was going to ease, but no it got worst. So just went back to our digs. We thought that we may go back later in the day but it just didn’t settle. So we had a nice quiet afternoon sitting beside the fire which was lit up for us while we were out so we came back to a cosy warm house. PT said we may try to do the walk in the morning before we leave Dorrigo. Not sure.

These photos above and below, were taken yesterday, when the sun was out, showing you the property we are staying at.

Beautiful country farmland. Our Host owns a thirteen acre plot with the main house and two holiday lets. Our house is one bedroom and the other 3 bedroom . Don’t know how big the main house is. Dina and Matt are very caring hosts. He built all three properties himself. Not a builder sort of guy that will tackle anything.

Large room with long couch alone the other end of the room

Cosy afternoon in front of the fire.

Looking along the kitchen, huge.

Looking back to the lounge.

The front of The house where we are staying. This  house was going to be a garage for the first house Matt built. which then was their main house where they lived. It’s now the three bedroom holiday let. And they call ours The Garage, holiday let. You can see the likeness of a garage with the two big windows which would have been the garage doors.

Out the back of ours,  Patio divided by a fence to the other let.

Even has a pool but way too cold for that.

This is Panini the Dog. The owner is called Dina who is Italian hence the dogs name. Sunbathing with three chickens. She was lovely, pops in to see us at times, checking up on us, then goes. Visited us each morning as soon as she heard us.

When we went out this morning first stop in the little town of Dorrigo, was the old IGA. Store.

Dorrigo’s Local Pub.

Looking down the Main Street.

What a mess this old motel is all boarded up but if you look closely to the little sign behind the yellow one, it says Motel Vacancy. !!!! 🤔

Now on our way to Grithins Lookout. Lovely countryside.

Arrive at Grithins lookout.

Just as the cloud was lifting a little  sun trying hard to pop through. Still a little foggy.

I decided to send a video as they are clearer to pick up the clarity when the view is cloudy or foggy. I should have thought of this earlier, when I was out on those platforms over the deep valleys.  I couldn’t get videos to work in the past but I have just remembered I think I did 1 or 2 last year. Ignore PTs voice in the background he didn’t realise I was taking a video.

We are now at the Dorrigo Rainforest Centre. Fog really thick now. This is a long viewing platform. Superb views for the Dorrigo National Park and Bellingen Valley goes to the coast with deep valleys and gorges, covered in deep rainforest. The skywalk Lookout is a 70 m boardwalk, that looks over the edge of the escarpment, 21m above the rainforest. It’s perched right on the edge of the escarpment. I was here so I decided I would still like to walk out to the end to see nothing.  I held my camera up and the screen was white meaning nothing. So I thought I would take a video which again gives more detail. Below

When I was taking this video, when it came to saying where I was, I suddenly had a blank on pronunciation of  Dorrigo, and being a video I got all confused.  🫤 🫤

As I said at the beginning we decided not to do the Rainforest  walk, as the rain  came down heavily.

We came back to Ridgetop Hideaway (the name of our ‘Garage’) this is the long approach to their houses. The fog has come back in over the hills as it was clearing a little when we left.

We have reached the above trees and you can just see the properties at the end of the drive. Spent the rest of the afternoon in front of the of the fire. I wasn’t going to do a blog tonight as we didn’t really do much today. But I had the time and managed to stretch it out…………

We are heading to Evans Head tomorrow for three nights, just to slow down . (If there are no more slips and heavy rain. ) Then on Saturday one night in a motel next to the airport, to fly out on Sunday. GOSH the time has gone so fast.

Evans Head, 16th May, 2025

Woke up to fine weather after  all the rain we had yesterday. The sun was barely up and PT said let’s go and see the area while it is fine....
