We are now in the New England high country, about 1,000m above sea level. I didn’t want to leave too early this morning as the mist was down low over the mountains. I thought if we had waited and left later the mist might have a chance to lift. But no, we got away to drive the 30 minuets to the Dangara falls. Thick cloud all the way out but the mist had lifted. You really need the sun shining down into the gorge as without it the photos can be rather dark or fuzzie. While we were out there the sun tried to peep through, but in a few seconds, then gone. There were two good short walks but we didn’t do the big long ones. We drove round the ‘Scenic Route 19 Drive.’ In a Loop travelling north of Uralla, cutting in west, over farmland then down south again then suddenly there was a cliff edge and a huge drop into the very deep DANGARS GORGE. Then out again and continued further south, taking a right turn back west through GOSTWYCK and back to Uralla. As we left the Gorge the weather started to improve.
DANGARA FALLS
Above and below photos, Dongara ‘Falls’ Lookout. A spectacular sight looking over to the falls. There was a fast flow of water coming over the cliff top. More water flowing here than in the Blue Mountains waterfalls.
Close up in the middle of the falls.
And down at the bottom.
Continuing from the bottom of the falls down the river through this very deep gorge.
Above and below we have now walked to Dangars ‘View’ lookout View looking down over the top of the falls. Which drops down 120ms into the deep gorge.
Video looking over the falls from the top not sure if it will work.Drops 120m down over the cliff.
Above and below photos, are the lookouts between the above falls lookouts. Taken while we walked along the cliff top track between the two falls lookout above.
So rugged and very deep.
We have now gone down another track. To see where the water gathers before it cascades over the cliff. This water has been through many farmland areas by the time it reaches here, so they say ‘don’t drink the water’
We walked over a bridge which continued onto another walking track, but we decided not to continue with this one.
Now we have left the Gorge to continue our scenic drive. We were on these metal roads a lot, as these roads were put through farmers farms to make the access to the DANGARS Gorge. They were in good condition which made it easier.
Just kept taking photos of the countryside, as you can see the weather has improved.
Now in GOSTWYCK where just over this bridge is this beautiful little chapel. It’s very popular with the tourists to grab a photo. It is covered all over with Virginia creeper. Build in 1921. The Chapel is constructed of bricks entirely made and fired on the property. The stone wall around was built to protect it from flooding. The leaves go bright red in the summer but they have just about finished falling.
There were 200 hundred Elm trees planted by a man who was brought out from England specifically for that job. They are up and down the streets in the area.
This was an entrance to a beautiful home. The sun came out as we were approaching and there were really bright red. Then the sun went out and killed the colour.
Now back at digs. I said yesterday that I would take a photo how this place is set up with the two cottages. The main house is set back over the hill up the back. Good little business.
Some beautiful trees on the land.
