Katoomba, Blue Mountains to Bathurst, 7th May, 2025.

After our three nights in Katoomba, Blue Mountains, we should have had an easy 100km trip up to Bathurst today. But, somehow I found things to see and do on the way, hence it  probably took us about three hours to Bathurst. Then we filled in time having lunch and a drive around the Mt Panorama racing circuit.  Weather still fine but the wind is up today so PT very conscious of me not getting too near the cliffs. But all good,  all out spots we stopped at had good strong fencing to keep me back.

Early this morning,  looking out from our Cabin

NUGGET ROCK LOOKOUT

We drove about 20km out from Katoomba our first stop on the way to Bathurst  it was a bit of a nothing lookout.

Climbed up on this big rock. You can just see the top which is in the below photo.

On top was this so called pulpit shape.

Above and below the views out on either side of the rock.

MITCHELL RIDGE LOOKOUT

On our arrival to Mitchell Ridge Lookout there were all these ambulance cars and many men and women dressed in survival gear to climb down cliffs  or be lifted down. We had no idea what was going on so one of the men came over to us as we didn’t know where to park to get out to the lookout. He was very friendly and chatty and said they were out there for training. But did say ‘don’t let us stop you from continuing your viewings’

Had a look around took these shots of the view.

I then moved around to the next viewing spot looking the other way

Then I spotted the Ambo guys getting ready, all roped up to be dropped down over this cliff face, down into a deep gully.

We have now driven up to the top of  Hassan’s Walls Lookout the highest viewing point (1136m) above sea level, in the Blue Mountains. The last 3km was a gravel road which we weren’t expecting. I thought after driving all the way up the side of this hill that PT would say not going any further. But he did still go on . Well worth it. There were great panoramic views over the western edge of the Blue Mountains, with rolling valleys below.  I walked out to the end of this viewing platform.

To see these amazing views all round.

It was very windy up here.

I spotted another track so couldn’t resist going to see what’s down there. I saw this hole outside of this big rock. Bent over and managed to get through and ended up in this cave.

Once inside looked up and saw this great outlook. What a great find. Went over to the fence.

And looked down and saw this great outlook down into this valley below.

We have now finally arrived at Bathurst after what we thought was going to be a quick driving day ended up taking longer to go to the highest hill.

Back home I had read about Annies old fashion ice cream Parlour and pancake shop in Bathurst so it was a no brainer to reached there for lunch.

Cinnamon pancakes and ice cream, yum. Couldn’t eat all mine so put it in a serviette and took it with me.

Inside Annie’s Old Fashion Ice Cream Parlour. Beautifully set up inside and out.

Across the road from Annie’s was this pretty park.

This was a tower of remembrance.

Opposite the park was this very attractive Church. Bathurst from what we have seen is a very well kept attractive town.

Now for the petrol heads in the family.

Still too early for 2.00pm check in time at the Rydges Hotel right next to the Bathurst car racing circuit about 4km out of town.

We are now going to drive round the 6.1 car racing circuit. This is Pit stop lane. The pits are hidden behind these high fences so couldn’t see any of that.

Round the corner looking back down Pit Lane.

I took a video round the whole track. But as I had my hand out the window couldn’t really see too much what I was filming. Haven’t looked at it all. Had to break it into three videos as it would have been too long.

Just came through this last arch back to Pit Lane

When we checked in at the Hotel, as we were on the second floor I asked the Manager if there was any viewing on the top floor. He said no but said he would take us up to a higher room to take some photos as the Hotel is right on the edge of the circuit. Looking left over to  Mt Panorama.

Looking straight out over the circuit( that truck looks out of place)  this grassed area is where everyone coming to the races park.

Now looking right, towards Pit Lane.

This is our hotel. Right on the circuit,

Our car when we arrived to check in.all rooms look over the circuit

Room looking out over the circuit

There is one long balcony on each floor so all the rooms look out over the circuit. Imagine how busy this would be on race days. Sitting on your balcony watching the action.

In remembrance of  Peter Brook

Model of Brooks car.

Cabinet full of miniature racing cars that have won races here.

The race track.

We finish the day going down to the restaurant for dinner. I had chicken and PT had rump steak. Mine on the left was such a big meal. I only ate half the chicken and chips. Got a doggie bag for half the chicken and all the salad. What made my meal look so big was because they had put so much cheese and tomato paste on top which I scraped off. After pancakes for lunch I just couldn’t eat much. Usually we hardly have anything for lunch and only feel like small meals at night. So today’s lot was a bit of a shock to the system.

Evans Head, 16th May, 2025

Woke up to fine weather after  all the rain we had yesterday. The sun was barely up and PT said let’s go and see the area while it is fine....
